Associate Professor Alicia Jenkins is the Head of Lipid and Vascular Disease Risk Factor Clinic and a Physician at the Young Adults Diabetes Clinic at St Vincent's Hospital. She is a Physician (Honorary) at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne Diabetes Clinic. She also holds the position of Professor (Visiting) at Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center, USA. A/Prof Jenkins is a member of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Australia, American Diabetes Association, European Association for the Study of Diabetes, Association of Clinical Scientists (USA), Australian Diabetes Society, Australian Atherosclerosis Society, Collegiate Member, Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh, Scotland), Australian Diabetes Society Council. She is also a Board Member and Medical Advisor with Insulin For Life.
A/Prof Jenkins' research interests are the prediction and prevention of retinal and renal damage and atherosclerosis in diabetes and of atherosclerosis in other high risk groups; risk markers and mediators studies relating to lipoproteins, inflammation, oxidative stress; advanced glycation end-products and endothelial function. She undertakes clinical and basic science studies and her clinical interests are diabetes and vascular disease risk factor management.
