Insulin for Life provides life-saving insulin in recent Haiti earthquake
Insulin for Life Australia and Global (IFL) responded to the recent Haiti earthquake with enough donated insulin for 200 people arriving in Haiti within a few days of the quake, taken in directly by staff of the Haiti Diabetes Association after receiving it from IFL. Transport and other handling costs for these were paid by the International Diabetes Federation and other IFL affiliates also sent supplies. IFL President Ron Raab said in a statement "It is very rewarding to know that IFL was able to save lives during those critical first weeks [following the quake]". Insulin for Life Australia (IFL) and Global (active in 6 countries, coordinated by IFL Australia) collects donated, unopened, in-date insulin, test strips and other supplies that are no longer needed which would otherwise be wasted. All of these supplies are donated overseas, following specific requests from recognised organisations with an agreed protocol. 29 countries have been supplied over the last year in ongoing and emergency medical responses. Diabetes CCRE Chief Investigator Alicia Jenkins is a Board Member and Medical Advisor for IFL. |
